Bedroom refresh in a Darwin unit

Date 2025
Location Darwin
Category Residential

A second bedroom reworked in a Darwin unit: the built-in wardrobe removed, the floor made good with owner-supplied tiles, new cornice fitted, and the walls and ceiling primed and repainted.

Our Solutions

We handled the demolition, tiling, cornice and painting as one sequence so the room was ready to use again without the owner organising several trades.

What we did

  • Removed the built-in wardrobe and took all waste away.
  • Laid the owner-supplied floor tiles where the wardrobe had been, matching the existing grout.
  • Fitted new cove cornice in the old wardrobe location.
  • Replaced the rollers on four glass security sliding doors throughout the unit.
  • Prepared the walls and ceiling and primed them with two coats of a strong block-out primer.
  • Painted the ceiling in flat ceiling white and the walls in the owner’s chosen colour.

What happens to the floor when a wardrobe comes out

A built-in wardrobe usually leaves an unfinished patch of floor and a gap in the cornice. Fixing both properly, with tiles that match the existing grout and cornice that runs cleanly into the old line, is what makes the room look like it was always that shape. See our Carpentry service.

Why two coats of block-out primer

When you change a wall colour, a strong block-out primer helps stop the old colour showing through and gives the finish coat an even surface. That is why we prime the ceiling and walls before painting. See our Painting & Plastering service. Sliding doors that stick or drag are often a roller problem, which is a quick fix, and part of our Windows, Flyscreens & Screen Doors work.
